What to consider before getting a Root Canal?
If you’re wondering how to figure out if you need a root canal, the symptoms of damaged pulp range from toothaches, swollen gums, and a burning sensation in your gums.
What problems require a Root Canal Treatment?
- Spontaneous pain that may even wake you at night.
- Toothache that gets worse when you bite down or chew.
- Discolouration of a tooth
A recurring swelling on the gum above your tooth may even burst and taste bad. - Extreme and long-lasting sensitivity to cold or hot.
What to expect in the Root Canal appointment?
Generally, the appointment will last around 30-60 mins.
The initial appointment is about getting you out of pain. Using a local anaesthetic, we remove the infected tissue from a filling or access hole in the top of the back of your tooth. Sometimes the infection is so bad that the anaesthetic doesn’t work well and we make every effort to help you through these tricky situations.
Medications are placed inside your tooth, and a temporary filling is then placed to protect the inside of the tooth from becoming reinfected.

Root Canal FAQ's
A root canal treatment is a dental procedure carried out to repair a damaged tooth instead of removing it. It is a treatment that gets rid of the bacteria from the infected root canal, which helps avoid reinfection of the tooth in order to preserve it in its natural form.
Naturally, the price of a root canal varies based on your dentist. An excellent average estimate of a root canal without a fitted crown is around $2,000 – $3,400. You should call your insurance provider to check whether the procedure is covered under your plan.
There are many advantages to undergoing a root canal procedure. Chief amongst these are its prevention of tooth loss and infection of the neighboring teeth.
While some people choose to go the tooth extraction route, retaining the natural tooth is far more helpful. Of course, tooth extraction is a permanent solution to combating cavities but this might result in tooth movement or gaps.
Other benefits include the fact that root canals improve the aesthetics of the teeth, prevent degeneration of the jawbone and boost overall dental hygiene.
