What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a state-of-the-art solution for replacing missing or damaged teeth. These are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to support replacement teeth or bridges.
Implants offer a secure, long-lasting alternative to dentures and bridges, mimicking the appearance and function of natural teeth.
This treatment is ideal for individuals who:
- Have missing or severely damaged teeth.
- Want a permanent, natural-looking replacement.
- Have sufficient jawbone to support the implant.
Using advanced techniques, dental implants restore both the appearance and function of your teeth.
Who Requires Dental Implants & How Do They Work?
Dental implants are an ideal solution for individuals with missing or damaged teeth, providing a permanent and functional replacement. Typically recommended for those who are in good oral health but have lost teeth due to injury, decay, or other causes, implants restore both aesthetics and function.
How the procedure works:
1.Consultation & Implant Placement: The implant is surgically placed by an experienced specialist, typically using titanium.
2.3D Scan & Crown Creation: A precise 3D scan is taken to design a custom porcelain crown.
3.Healing & Fitting: Healing time is about 3 months. Afterward, the crown is securely attached to the implant with a removable screw. A follow-up x-ray ensures the implant’s perfect fit.

Let's answer some frequently asked questions.
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made from titanium that are placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. Once the implant fuses with the bone (a process called osseointegration), a custom-made crown is attached to restore the function and appearance of your natural teeth.
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. However, their longevity depends on various factors, such as the patient’s oral hygiene, bone health, and lifestyle choices. On average, implants last 25 years or more, but routine check-ups are important for maintaining their longevity.
Dental implant surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia, so patients generally feel little to no pain during the procedure. Afterward, there may be some discomfort or swelling, but these effects can be managed with pain medications and usually subside within a few days. Most people find the recovery process to be manageable.
The healing time for dental implants can vary, but most patients will need around 4-6 months for the implant to fully integrate with the jawbone. The soft tissue healing around the implant may take a few weeks. After this period, the final restoration (such as a crown) is placed.
After dental implant surgery, it’s important to stick to soft foods for the first few days to avoid placing pressure on the surgical site. Once healing progresses and the implants have integrated with the bone, you can return to eating most foods, though it’s recommended to avoid hard or chewy foods initially to ensure proper healing.
While some dental insurance plans may partially cover dental implants, many do not fully cover the cost due to their high expense. It’s important to check with your provider to understand your coverage. Some clinics offer financing options to help make the treatment more affordable.
The best age for dental implants is typically when a person’s jawbone has fully developed, which is usually around the age of 18 for women and 20 for men. There’s no upper age limit for dental implants as long as the individual is in good overall health. However, a consultation with a dentist is necessary to evaluate bone health and any potential medical conditions that may affect implant success.
Yes, dental implants are considered a worthwhile investment for many individuals. They offer numerous benefits, including durability, improved appearance, and restored functionality. Dental implants also help preserve jawbone density, unlike traditional dentures. While the upfront cost may be higher than alternatives like dentures, the long-term benefits make them a cost-effective choice for many patients.
Dental implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth, or even an entire arch of teeth. In cases where multiple teeth are missing, implant-supported bridges or dentures can be used, providing a stable, permanent solution. For extensive tooth loss, a full-mouth restoration with implants may be recommended.
The placement of a dental implant typically takes about 1 to 2 hours for a single implant. This includes the surgical procedure to insert the titanium post into the jawbone. If multiple implants are required, the procedure can take longer. After the implant is placed, it may take several months for the bone to fuse with the implant before a final crown is attached.
It’s never truly “too late” for dental implants, but certain factors can complicate the process, such as severe bone loss in the jaw. If bone density is insufficient, a bone graft may be required to build up the area before the implant can be placed. A dental professional will assess the condition of your jawbone and overall health to determine whether implants are a viable option.
Individuals who may not be suitable for dental implants include those with uncontrolled medical conditions like diabetes, certain autoimmune diseases, or severe gum disease. Additionally, smokers and individuals with inadequate jawbone density may not be ideal candidates. A thorough consultation with a dentist or oral surgeon is necessary to assess eligibility and discuss any potential risks.
Yes, there are alternatives to dental implants, including dental bridges. Bridges can replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth, while dentures provide a removable solution for replacing multiple missing teeth or an entire arch. However, these alternatives don’t provide the same long-term benefits, such as bone preservation, that dental implants do.
