What Causes Discoloured Teeth & How Can Whitening Help?
Lifestyle choices are the leading problem with teeth staining- black coffee or tea, red wine, all the fun things in life, right? Over the last 20 years our expectation of white teeth has changed and it is very common for people to have tried some form of teeth whitening. The most important piece of this puzzle is your tooth enamel, the outer shell of your teeth, as this is the layer we can whiten.
What to expect with my Teeth Whitening treatment?
- After an examination to confirm zoom whitening will give you the desired result, a retractor is placed in the mouth to cover the lips and gums, exposing only the teeth. The retractor comfortably holds the mouth wide open and protects other parts of the mouth from chemical exposure.
- The whole procedure is broken up into 3 or 4 rounds of applying the gel and light. This takes up to an hour to complete revealing fabulous results.
- We ask you to consume a “white diet” for 24 hours to prevent rebound staining and preserve the result.
- Brief sensitivity can occur but it won’t last long, and we will talk you through those if and when they occur.

There is a wide range of benefits that Zoom teeth whitening provides. Since its initiation, it has become one of the most popular teeth whitening treatments and it has proven to be a reliable treatment that leaves its patients feeling happy and confident. Here are some of its benefits.
Easy & Quick
This whitening treatment involves the dentist applying a gel to the teeth and then introducing a blue light to start the bleaching process. The gel contains hydrogen peroxide, which is broken down by the light allowing the chemical to get rid of the stains. Typically, the treatment takes about an hour.
Painless & Safe
This teeth whitening method is very safe for soft tissues and teeth. Your dentist will ensure that other parts of the mouth such as the cheeks, gums, and lips aren’t affected by the treatment. Appropriate precautions are taken to ensure easy treatment. Patients also attest to not feeling any pain during the procedure.

If you have sensitive teeth and you’re looking for something effective while not having to endure lots of pain, Zoom whitening is the treatment for you. The whitening gel and varnish have been developed carefully to prevent teeth irritation. There might be a little bit of a sting here and there, but it’s nothing that can’t be handled.

Teeth Whitening Frequently Asked Questions
Zoom teeth whitening is a time-efficient and effective procedure that lightens teeth to about 8 shades. This modern technology uses a blue light that activates bleaching chemicals, thereby, lightening the teeth in just one sitting!
Zoom whitening is considered to be one of the most effective whitening treatments. It uses modern technology, is non-invasive, and is a very safe procedure. Many studies show that patients who undergo this treatment can see a difference after treatment, where their teeth are 6-8 shades lighter.
An individual’s results will depend on their teeth’s natural color, the severity of staining and discoloration, and what type of treatment your dentist has recommended. The change in the teeth’s color is measured in shades. So, for many of their clients, just 3 to 4 shades whiter makes a huge difference. So, yes, change will be noticeable.
If you have a goal or vision of how you want your teeth to look, a consultation with a dentist will give you options. Your dentist will also give you recommendations and suggestions that you should consider. It relies on other factors such as teeth sensitivity, enamel erosion, the severity of stains, etc.
The Zoom treatment is a short and simple process. One session lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Your dentist will create a personalized treatment for you. If your teeth are very discolored, your dentist might recommend you come back for another session. But, typically, the treatment is completed in one session and is long-lasting.
It is common for your teeth to feel sensitive as the pores of teeth enamel are opened during the whitening process. Sensitivity lasts for about 2-3 days. During this time avoid foods that are too hot or cold switch to sensitive toothpaste for optimal comfort.
If good oral hygiene is maintained and you can avoid foods and drinks that have previously been known to stain your teeth, this would ensure the results on the zoom treatment stay intact. So, your teeth should stay white anywhere between 2 to 4 years.
